What’s on, my Ansome?

So you’re in Cornwall for your holiday. And you know Cornwall is famous for the local food! Clotted Cream (which is definitely better than whatever they have in Devon), the great cheese Yarg, and beautiful saffron buns.

But the king of Cornish cuisine has to be the glorious Pasty! And if you’re in Cornwall, you’re going to want to eat one! But with so many to choose from, where can you find the best pasty in Helston?

We can promise you that plenty of pasties have been scranned in our household, and we know a thing or two about a good pasty! (And if it reassures, Dawn has worked as a professional cook. She knows food!)

In this post, you’re going to learn about the best of the best pasties you can get your hands on down here in Cornwall. Let's get into it!

1. Prima Bakeries

If you want a great pasty, you need to look no further than Prima Bakeries!

We mean that literally, too. We love these pasties so much that they’re the ones we stock in our on-site cafe, the Crate!

Prima’s flaky steak pasties are a top representation of the local dish. The filling has a great mix of skirt steak, onion, potato, and turnip. They are beautifully seasoned, and the portion size is great!

They’re a family-run third-generation bakery so they know their stuff. Trust us, you can’t go wrong with a Prima Pasty!

2. Ann's Pasties

From a bakery with roots deeply embedded in the local community, Ann's Pasties are widely regarded to be the finest anywhere in the world, let alone the best in Helston!

Made with ingredients locally sourced within 10 miles of her family shop, Ann's makes artisanal pasties of the highest quality. They are a truly Cornish delicacy and a fantastic representation of everything that makes Cornwall such a special place.

We definitely recommend checking out Ann's website, too! As well as great stories about the history of the pasty and her family's pasty legacy, she’s also kind enough to share her recipe for making pasties for you to try at home. You don’t want to miss out on this one!

3. Gear Farm

Gear Farm produces epic pasties that give even the mighty Ann a run for her money.

Located 20 minutes drive from Roselidden house camping, Gear Farm has a shop that offers some of the most excellent local Cornish produce you can get your hands on.

As well as the banging pasties, the farm shop supplies great local vegetables, fruits, and flowers.

Even better, if you head to the farm shop you’ll be able to pick up some frozen pasties and other baked goods to take home! If you brought a cool bag with you, make sure to stock up before you head home!

4. Philps Pasties

Another fantastic family-run artisanal bakery business, Philps is an excellent choice for a pasty if you’re looking for lunch in Helston!

Their family has been in the pasty-making business since 1958, and the mastery of the craft is evident to see in their food. They also cater to a broad audience, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available!

One other great service available from Philips is their pasty Hampers! There isn’t a finer souvenir or gift available anywhere than a Cornish pasty care package (with some sweet stuff as a bonus!). You can order online to anywhere in the country, so you’ll never have to miss out on real Cornish fare ever again!

5. The Cornish Oven

Rounding out the list is a popular choice with the local workforce, Cornish Oven! Cornish Ovens delivery vans feed a lot of workers around the area daily, but they also have several brick-and-mortar shops for you to pop into to pick up some food.

The staff of the Cornish oven are in the kitchen at 5:30 in the morning hand making and baking each pasty you find in the store, every day of the week!

They open early, too, with shops open at 7:30 on a weekday and 9:00 and 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday respectively. It’s a convenient option for early birds to pick up food before you start your day out!

So there you have it!

You wanted to know about the best pasty in Helston, and now you do! Proper job, all of them. All that's left to do now is get out there and stuff your face!
