So you’ve brought your family down to Cornwall for a lovely holiday. It might even be your kids’ first ever trip! You definitely want as many wonderful experiences as possible, but it can be a real pain trying to plan days out when you don’t know the local area, right?

1. Flambards
For a fun day out with the family, you need look no further than the mighty Cornish amusement park, Flambards!
If you’re picturing Disneyland or Alton Towers, you might have to temper your expectations slightly. It’s not the biggest or most thrilling theme park in the world! (Skyforce still gets the blood pumping, though!)
What it does offer is a great day out for an all-ages group with plenty to keep your family entertained!
As well as the rides and some well-made and educational walking exhibitions, the One2Eleven indoor play area is a fantastic indoor playground for kids of all ages. You can easily spend a day or even two at Flambards without the little ones getting bored.
A holiday in Helston without a trip to Flambards isn’t complete, so make sure you don’t miss out!
2. Lakeside Children Park
Just 10 minutes’ drive away from the campsite, Lakeside Children park in Helston is a superb spot to spend an afternoon with the family, especially when the weather is good!
You can enjoy a pleasant walk around the lake and surrounding park. If your kids are the active types, you can hire a boat or some bicycles on site. There’s also a skate park anyone can use!
Even if you just want to sit back and relax and keep an eye on your kids, the park’s play areas offer plenty of entertainment. It’s a brilliant spot to keep in your back pocket to fall back on if you can’t find anything else to do!
3. Helston Railway
This is the place to be for any fans of Thomas and Friends!
A few valiant local volunteers have saved and restored the old Helston branch line and kept it alive for steam engine enthusiasts to enjoy.
As well as hopping on the steam train for a ride both ways along the line, you can get some lunch in the restored buffet carriage at Prospidnick station and pick up some toys and souvenirs in the gift shop.
4. Cornish Seal Sanctuary
The Seal sanctuary in Gweek is an absolute must for any family of animal lovers.
The folks here have been doing amazing conservation work to protect the local wildlife for years. And they offer a variety of brilliant experiences for visitors looking to have a grand day out.
As well as visiting the sanctuary itself and seeing the seals, penguins and other animals, there are options ranging from a tour around the facility with a cream tea all the way up to a 3 hour wildlife boat cruise around the local coastline.
They’re a genuinely wonderful organisation, so make sure you give them a visit!
5. Cornwall’s Great Escape rooms
If you’re looking for something different, why not take a drive out to Newlyn and have a go in one of Cornwall’s Great Escape rooms?
Suitable for ages 7+, spending time as a family trying to solve the puzzle of Cornwall’s Great Escape rooms is a wonderful way to have fun together as a family! We recommend going to the Grimm Fairytale or Pirate themed rooms!
You have to make a reservation, so booking ahead is advised, but even if you leave it until the last minute you should be able to find some available slots during the daytime if you’re looking for something to do today.
As a bonus, if you head over to Newlyn for the escape rooms, there are awesome fish and chips to be had! What are you waiting for?
